Dentistry is where science and art meet

Rector Prof. Dr. Adnan Yüksel, emphasizing the importance of the profession of dentistry, said, "Dentists are both artists and scientists".
Our 1st and 2nd year students of the Faculty of Dentistry, in Turkish and English, wore their white coats at the ceremony. The ceremony held at the Reyhan Building Conference Hall; Our Rector Prof. Dr. Adnan Yüksel, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Naime Bilinc Bulucu, President of the Istanbul Chamber of Dentists, Mr. Ali Gürlek, our academicians, students and parents attended.

Our Ethical Values are our Priority
Making the opening speech of the ceremony, our Rector Prof. Dr. Adnan Yüksel started his speech by congratulating the students who will wear white coats. Our Rector, who said that dentistry is one of the most popular professions in the world, stated that they aim to train the students of our university who have the qualifications sought at the national and international level, who are not entitled, who take ethical values as a guide, and who are beneficial to humanity. Saying "Dentists are both artists and scientists", Rector Prof. Dr. Adnan Yuksel advised students to learn their profession down to the smallest details and said, “Improve your manual dexterity with repetitions. Update your information constantly. Develop your skills. Develop yourself in the artistic aspect of your profession as well”.

We Should Set an Example with Our Behaviors
Dean Prof. Dr. Naime Bilinc Bulucu addressed the students in her speech and said, “Dentistry is not just a profession consisting of interventional procedures. You should be able to approach your patients like a psychologist and be an exemplary role model to the society with your behaviors. To be a physician, it is necessary to have knowledge, experience and ethical values. This can be achieved by making efficient use of the education you have received throughout your education process and filling the time you spend for your personal development with quality choices.” said.

Let your professional life be as white as your coats
Stating that today is the day the seeds of scientific dentistry are planted, our Dean said, “The doctor's coat, as well as the symbol of a professional staff, protects us from infection and contamination in clinics and laboratories. In order to fulfill this task, it must be clean and closed in front of it. Covering the gown is also an expression of the doctor's respect for his patient. Let your professional life be as white as your coats.” he finished his speech.

Our School Opened 113 Years Ago
The President of the Istanbul Chamber of Dentists, Mr. Ali Gurlek, said that 113 years have passed since the establishment of the "Dentistry School" in the Faculty of Medicine, on November 22, 1908. He said that the profession has been advancing continuously since that day, and suggested to the students to follow the professional developments constantly.
