Shab-e Yalda: The Night of Yalda was Celebrated with Joy at Biruni

The night of Yalda, one of the most important cultural days of Iranian civilization, which is celebrated on December 21 every year, is the longest night of the year. On this night, relatives gather at the home of their elders and spend the night together, demonstrating that they are safe. Since darkness symbolizes evil, by being together they send the message that they are strong in solidarity on the longest dark night of the year. Iranian students studying at Biruni University also celebrated the traditional Shab-e Yalda, the first of which they celebrated last year, by enjoying the second one this year. The presentation of the YaldaF Program was made by Hakan Türker Dulkadiroğlu, Director of Health, Culture and Sports, and Taha Teymuriyan, a 1st year student of the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health Sciences. Biruni University Rector Prof. Dr. Adnan Yüksel made the first speech in the program. Prof. Yüksel stated that international students are valued as their own children under the roof of Biruni and that all social, cultural, scientific and sportive opportunities are allocated to them in our school. Emphasizing that systematic and disciplined work directly affects success, Prof. Dr. Adnan Yüksel underlined that Biruni is a world university with its many international students.

Rector Prof. Dr. Adnan Yüksel stated that they will celebrate the Yalda Program with the students in the next year and said that being in solidarity is important in creating a great power. Afterwards, Negar Sadat Azimipour, President of the Iranian Students Community and 3rd year dentistry student, took the floor and made his speech. In the program, the audience drew fortunes written on small papers with Hafiz's couplets written on them, which is called Hafiz Horoscope.

After the video presentation introducing Iran, Yas Khomarloo, a 2nd year student of the Faculty of Medicine, explained in Persian and Turkish what Yalda Night is and how it is spent in the program, and then Sepehr Sanatkar Javidy came to perform with the national instrument of Iran, the setar, and another student accompanied him with the rhythm of the def.

As is the tradition at Yalda nights, our students Nasser Barati, Arina Jafari Parsa, Mobina Ohadizadeh and Mohammad Janbarazani performed Hafez and Firdawsi. Sepehr Sanatkar Javidy took the stage again and received great appreciation with his solo setar performance. The last musical feast of the program came from Arshia Sharifi and Taha Teymuriyan. The duo took the audience on a journey to their country with their peaceful music. Finally, the program ended with the fruits and nuts special for Yalda Night, which were offered to the participants in the foyer area.
